STUDIES

Patrizia Cigna was born in Volterra (Pisa). She was a student of Jolanda Meneguzzer and received her diplom in singing from the State Music Conservatory “Luigi Cherubini” in Florence with top marks, cum laude and a special mention under the guidance of Maria Grazia Germani.

SINGING COMPETITIONS

She won many important International Competitions, among which: Rocca delle Macìe (Siena, 1994); Tito Schipa (Lecce, 1994), William Walton (Ischia, 1995). She was also finalist in John McCormack Competition in 1995 in Athlone (Ireland) and in Operalia – Domingo in 1997 in Tokio.

OPERA DEBUTS

She made her debut in 1993 at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa in the role of Juliette Brook in The LITTLE SWEEP by B. Britten.

Since then she has interpreted numerous operas from the traditional repertoire, among which:
– Despina in COSÍ FAN TUTTE (Wexford Opera Festival, Ireland 1995);
– Norina in DON PASQUALE (Wexford Opera Festival 1996 with Juan Diego Florez);

– Ekimona in L’ETOILE DU NORD by G. Meyerbeer recorded at Wexford Opera Festival for Marco Polo’s Label in 1996);
– Barbarina in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Torino 1997, Teatro Comunale Florence 2003);

She has also collaborated with stage directors as Ian Judge, Irina Brook, Antonio Petris,

Ivan Stefanutti, Franco Ripa di Meana, Michele Placido, Lorenzo Mariani, Stefano Vizioli, Francesco Micheli, Denis Krief, Pier Luigi Pizzi.

She has also collaborated with baroque ensemble such as: Solisti Fiorentini,Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Mantova, I Barocchisti, Lorenzo Da Ponte Orchestra singing Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi, Gloria by Vivaldi, several Cantatas by Bach, Vivaldi, Haendel, Requiem, Mass in C minor and Davide Penitente by Mozart, Stabat Mater by Haydn. In the 2000 she has performed for Slovenja Radio Carmina Burana by Orff and she has recorded Ein deutsches Requiem by J. Brahms in Wien and Innsbruck in 2002 and she has sung a production of Joahannespassion by Bach in Salzburg in 2011.
